We are gifted as a creation with the ability to convey our thoughts and emotions. It comes out in constructed sounds that are interpreted and hopefully understood by others. Sometimes we use expressions and mime our mind’s reflections. Even still, we can capture the feelings on a piece of canvas with a timely image. Other times, we go more traditional and write down our ponderings of the day and moments. Each is designed to reflect the present state of the individual.
But when words and expressions escape our capacity to relate we often fall back to basic raw emotions and become demonstrative. These feelings of elation can come forward in song and dance, feats of competition, and gestures of gifts or love. Otherwise if the feelings are negative the acts are felt in expressive tones of dominion, depression, and destruction.
Human beings are unique in their design and creation. They were inspired at the beginning to mimic the Creator. They were designed to follow His lead. They were designed to choose between the right and wrong. They were designed with purpose. In Genesis, we find that a few generations after the flood the world was still of common purpose and tongue. People were traveling and staying together as they traversed westward from the initial camping’s of Noah and his family.
The population was growing and lives were steadily decreasing in length of years. But man new it was increasing and wanted to keep a common element as it spread across the plains. The descendants of Shem and Noah decided to build a city and construct a tower that would touch the hem of the heavens. Its purpose was to draw men unto it. But the Creator did not agree with mans mindset.
Man was designed in the image of his Creator. And as such, the need for man was to look unto his Maker and find the treasures and purpose he was made for. God wanted his fellowship. But as humankind spread across the plains, he and she desired each others company more and more and neglected the primary One. The Creator was calling.
In the end if man wasn’t corrected, history would’ve repeated itself. Without question the human element would have become its own god and declared war on heaven’s throne. So God came and visited His creation yet again, and He struck the cords of the tongue causing a diversity in language and sent his people out across the fields of the world. What gets me in this, is the fact that God walked among them and they knew it not. How sad. Just four generations removed from the flood and a little over a century later, man had already forgotten the Creator.
This is why the Cross of Christ points the way to the Father. We were created for fellowship of man to man, but we were also created for fellowship with man to God. It is why we seek to be away and pray. Prayer is a much needed facet in the life of a believer. This is how we converse with the Almighty. Its our phone calling, posting, tweeting, messaging to Him and its time to make it a priority. Remember conversations are two-way. It doesn’t mean God will tweet you back, but He will respond in a way that you will know. Be good. Keep the faith. Don’t let the contentious ways of man divide you from your fellowship with Him!
Godspeed, The Journeyman
Ps. Today’s story is for you. My prayer for you is that God would use you to make a difference right where you are. When someone asks, what is God like? Who is this Jesus? It’s through your fellowship with Him that you’ll be able to tell them and pray for them. Then God will do the rest. Check Genesis 11 for the story of Babel and spend a few moments in prayer.
