dualities...

There are moments in life where events or topics line up without even trying. Room by room, step by step, friend by friend something is revealed where a commonality is found. What is learned in school will apply in life. What is shared in moments of friendship will carry to others. What isn’t shared is lost or often becomes uprooted. Clarity helps unite and expose the threads that are weaved.

While taking some online courses, I have found myself sharing and discussing themes and topics of the bible with others across this country. It’s a class on the old testament and the discoveries that one long-gone man was able to collect and share before his departure to the realm of the kingdom of heaven. His survey that he compiled instills much knowledge and insight that I had never conceived. All the while, I have enjoyed the discovery and depths of that challenge.

In life, I don’t often get to be the sharer of the Gospel that I like so much. When conversations arise and people are engaged, certain coins can be deposited but not a full engagement. Work life throws several curves but the principles learned on one side can often be applied on the other. This crossover illustrates the duality of my nature.

I can be the good steward at work and the proper student at other times. But the streams from one carry over to the other. Paul describes in Galatians 5 another type of duality. Its between the choices of the flesh and spirit. Moses left us with a reminder from the One who was found in the burning bush. “But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may observe it. See, I have set before you today life and prosperity, and death and adversity… (Deuteronomy 30: 14-15).”

Choices of life cause a natural duality. One decision springs forth motions in a particular direction and the other in another. Eventually, it comes full circle until God’s way is taken. But there may be many laps around the mountain in the meantime. So in this way, I leave before you a choice… spend a moment and read up on the One who can be found, or walk away to the next part of your program.

Godspeed, The Journeyman

Ps. In the mundane things discovery can be found. It’s the silence in life that speaks the loudest. Some of the readings are noted already: Galatians 5 & Deuteronomy 30; Number 13 & 14 reveals a choice and consequence. Enjoy!
