Journeying through the farm land of life, we can experience many things that city life can only talk about and imagine. I grew up in a relatively small community with farmers and Amish folk. You could see a horse and buggy trotting down the side of the road every so often and made sure not to honk or drive to close. The community had its own way to life. A mixture of the old and new. It had workers and families from military, to government, to farmers growing corn, tobacco, and soy beans. Yes, there was quite a diversity in the town of my youth.
We had a steady influence of church and prayer time. Often during summer breaks from school the family would venture out and travel. It wasn’t fast by any stretch of the imagination, because it was mom and dad driving the car, and then the kids in the back. Sure we could get on one another’s nerves with a simple stare or a quick flick of the “uno” deck and joy turned to madness!
What it was was a unique time and way of seeing aspects of the country we, as a family, would’ve never known about or seen. Sampling little communities along the way could often be shared back home with little gifts or treats. Yes, life wasn’t perfect, but it was good.
In many ways as we grow in our years with salvation, we sometimes forget the little moments of life’s journey that have brought us to where we are. Have we grown in our relationship with God? Have the adventures been destructive or productive? Have we matured in our works and ways with the Good Lord?
In the bible, we discuss a plethora of stories and lessons that contribute to our lives right where we are. Sometimes we use it properly, and sometimes we mold to fit in a box a particular way. The important thing is to grow. We grow by spending time in relationship. Sometimes that is silence. Other times, it is words exchanged, a picture drawn, a photo snapped or a note of music expressing love, joy, or other attributes of the Spirit! So, as you take a moment to read this journeyman’s letter and the little travels that I’ve reminisced upon, take a moment for your benefit, and think of the little travels that God has done in your life.
Remember, as you are ramped up to be used by Him, keep your alone time. Its your way of knowing and staying in tune with Papa! Jesus could often be found separating Himself to go and spend time with His Dad. If He had to do it, how much more do we?
Godspeed, The Journeyman
Ps. Today’s story comes from the reality of life. May the saltiness of the Lord be found in you! In Mark 1: 35 and Luke 5: 16 we can find Jesus looking for the lonely spot! The fruit of the Spirit is: Galatians 5: 22.
