Click, clap, click, clap, click, clap go the sound of the feet as they cover the paved paths into work. The noise of the day is starting. The construction of the building continues. The sun is just starting to stretch its light upon the horizon. The birds are beginning to stir and serenade the workers heading into buildings. The aroma of morning bakeries comes drifting down the street. The world is turning once again and man is busy!
There is this older song that I’ve listened to for nearly a decade and a half. Its off of a Celtic worship cd… “Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look upon His wonderful face and the things of earth will go strangely dim.” What a peace there is in those sentences. A simple intent to focus on the One whose Passion, gave us life. It was the Son of God who sacrificed Himself on our behalf. It was Him who fulfilled a law that we could not. His only request… “believe on me.” (John 14:1)
In the struggles of readying herself for work. The single mom makes sure both kids have a warm breakfast in their belly, then properly dressed, before scurrying out the door to get the kids to the bus and on to work in time. The effort goes by without a thought and the day is a whirlwind that doesn’t seem to slow. Its pace is fast. The conversations are even faster. But in her hearing, not where man can reach, she hears… “I’m waiting…” Though time is precious the 10 minute break she is due, has become her moment with God. Peeling the layers of an orange as she sits in the break room ever so briefly, she opens up her bible app, and reads the day’s passage.
In that moment her gaze was fixed. She made the moments count, however brief. God wasn’t looking for the lengthy-ness of prayer and solitude, he had the religious elect for that. He was simply waiting for you to fix your gaze and just a moment. That’s all He needs. The day will take care of itself. The struggles, although are real, are handled with an assurance that God is in control.
Begin this day to take a moment and share it with the Lord. He isn’t asking for anything beyond your grasp. Can you hear the birds? Can you see the picturesque sky? The moments taken will initiate a passion in you. Before long you will see a change in daily activities and life. It doesn’t have to be a chapter, it just has to be something that has a beginning and an end. Isaiah shares this thought, “you will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you… (26:3)”
Godspeed, The Journeyman
