From the spinning depths of the whirlpool, where the speedy swirls draw you further and further into the abyss. It’s a place you can’t fight. You simply cease and let the rush of the current do it’s thing. The light is penetrating further into the deep and you can see. Yes, you can see.
God does this. He draws those who have sought and asked just take a glimpse at James 4: 8. He begins to attract you from the shorelines. You get wet, at first, and then you begin swimming. You delight in the new fondness of God that you are experiencing. Yes, it is a warmth to the senses and you ask for more. Soon you lose sight of where you began, but that doesn’t matter because you are enjoying the time apart and together.
Then the wind ceases… Then the currents and gentle splashes of the waves cease to be… Then effort is required to stay. The silence is deafening. No tugs. No currents of wind or water. Stillness and the light begins to turn. You see it is becoming unclear. The murky water is all around you and you are slowly succumbing to the lack of resistance and falling into a new depth.
The thought to breathe hits you hard, but there it is. There is a life in the stillness. Its appealing. And you say it can’t end here, “God call me in more.” He does. His nature is ever so alluring and gentle. He casts His gaze your way and the sight is all you need. David said it this way in Psalms 27: 4 “One thing have I asked, and that I will seek… to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire within His temple.”
The swirling begins and you are pulled in further and further into the abyss. God is pulling you in. But let’s be clear, it isn’t a call to go home, but a call for more! He has more for you to do!
The cycling of the whirlpool isn’t to restrict or hinder you, but its for you to speed up in a short period of time and space propelling you forward. He’s sending you from the depths He caused you to touch so you could go and be the voice of His message. The apostle John wrote of it in this fashion, “to the ones who believe in me…, out of his and her heart will flow rivers of living water.” (7: 38).
Godspeed, The Journeyman
