Having put distance between me and the hoard that once was around me was a breath of fresh air. As you know, the open road calls from time to time and when there are limited obstructions, it is nice just to ride! In a certain fashion, it is one tactic to creep away from the normal functions in life. A way to decompress, shut the busyness of the mind down and roll away into the winding roads that lie ahead. If the air proves warm enough, the windows go down and the arm sits on the ledge hanging out. But as time would show, you have to start letting your hand dance in the wind.
It’s the joy of being in the confines of the car with the liberty of driving the open roads! Sometimes it charts out an unknown destination or a place that has been all to long in the vapors of the memory fields. But wherever you are going, be sure of this, you are not alone. In life as a Christian we can be certain that we are with the Lord and that He is with us. Its a part of being in his flock. We are looked over by the Good Shepherd because we are known to Him and He is known to us (John 10:14-15).
When we go out or come in, it is by Him that we do so. David said, “the Lord will guard your going out and coming in from this time forth and forever (Psalm 121:8).” But what happens when we are gone too long and all of a sudden we find that things are not what they are supposed to be? Its as if the fold has moved on without us. Alone and unsure of our surroundings we long for the voice that we know and love… It’s then we see our Shepherd coming toward us (Luke 15: 4-7).
Lovingly the Master let’s His sheep come and go as they please. He is no tyrant ranting to have His way or the highway. The open road that was once celebrated has turned into a guise of deception and misdirection. This is when the awakening is needed! Here is where we find our redemption. Songs of hope ensure that He will come and get you, but know He has never left you. He has known you the entire time, but like the Psalmist said, “I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek Your servant, for I do not forget your commandments (Psalm 119:176).”
No matter where you find yourself today. Don’t lose hope. With the world seemingly offering more and more distractions, throwing up crisis’ and cataclysmic finalities, know that He is coming for you. He has not forgotten about you or rescinded His desire for you. His love will chase you down to the gates of hell and pull you up. Soon you too will rejoice and sing “He brought me up out of the miry clay, and He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm (Psalm 40: 2).”
Godspeed, The Journeyman
Ps. Today’s story comes from a ringing of the love of God. How His mercy is truly unending. I can hear Him calling out… can you? The bible quotes are from the NASB version, New American Standard Bible.
