lately...

Lately, I ‘ve been on an ol’ school kick of some R & B tunes. For sure the melodies just pop in and I search for them on the world wide web or play them from my playlists if I have them. Tonight, as I was chilling on the couch kinda watching the news while eating a little dinner, I began to address this song from 1991 just looping in my brain, “come and talk to me” by Jodeci. It is a song of attraction and the forbidden love that exists from within all the while trying to get the nerve to approach the one who has caught the eye of the beholder. The melody is sweet and it plays out well. A good song to share with your lady of interest…

At the same time the Spirit of the Lord is resonating from within. “Come and talk to me, I really want to know you. Can I talk to you?” Its funny how some old time songs can be used to draw me in at the most peculiar of times. But may the answer be: yes. In John 6 we are reminded that He is so much more than a healthy appetite v26 ESV: “… you are seeking me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves.” It isn’t the full bellies we should be seeking, but the One who fills the bellies.

Sometimes we lose the nerve to approach God. Sometimes we forget to bring Him the little tendencies that we once did when we were younger. Sometimes we think we can handle what we have on our plate and don’t need the intervention. But sometimes, we just need to go back to the beginning of things and spend time with Him. “For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day (John 6: 40 ESV).”

Relationships grow and can become dormant, stagnant and uneventful over the years. When family comes into play, it takes the attention of the parents to make sure the promises are kept, the meetings are attended and the homework is finished. This leaves little time for personal romance let alone time for the Lord. But in drawing closer to Him we can redeem the day’s passing. Because Jesus said, “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him (John 6: 44 ESV).”

He’ll draw you in with a fancy song of yesterday. He’ll tap into the romance that is inside of you and remind you of the love that is there. He’ll cause it to be stirred. And then you’ll be singing: “And every time I close my eyes I thank the lord that I've got you” by Babyface.

Godspeed, The Journeyman

Ps. Today’s story comes from the seeds of a while ago. When God redeems the time, He goes all in. Even when I had yet to meet Him, He met me there. Enjoy the communion tonight!
