Drive time in the DMV can be so much fun! It is something everyone needs a chance to experience… not really. I don’t wish that on you. But with that said, I do get some benefit from the time in my car. It allows me to escape in a bit of a conversation with the Lord. I can listen to music, sit in silence, dance or rather wiggle in my car seat J, and other times I can pray.
Today’s commute home started with a melody of tongues. I was singing in the ancient angelic language while traversing the traffic, lights, and road construction (I Corinthians 13: 1a). It wasn’t something I do a bunch, but out of it came a story of hope. No, not the kind of hope Star Wars brought when they introduced the world to Luke and Leia, but one of eternal Hope.
Often as Christians we best share our witness based on the fact of receiving Jesus. This is commendable but comes from a perspective on the outside looking in. If you take a look at John and the story of Jesus feeding the five thousand we can begin to see what is really happening. After the people saw His many miracles they kept following Him. Jesus not wanting them to pass out or worse said, “have the people sit down (John 6:10a ESV).”
The five thousand were fed with five barley loaves and two fish. They had received the invite of the Lord. That is what we do the moment we ask Jesus to come into our lives. We receive of Him. But that isn’t the only thing. A bit further into the new testament we find Paul explaining certain truths to the people of Corinth once again. “For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, ‘I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people (II Corinthians 6: 16b).” In this we find that as we receive Christ’s offer of salvation, we become united with Him.
Picture this, you are invited to a party. Someone’s special day of celebration and an invite has been extended to you. The day that you receive the invitation is similar to us accepting Christ’s. The day you arrive at the party you are received and enter into it. This is the expectation of what God has done for you. In this fashion we have joined the party of God and we begin our cohabitation. That’s the work of the Spirit of Jesus! “I will welcome you, and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty (II Corinthians 6: 18).”
Godspeed, The Journeyman
Ps. Today’s story comes to reassure you that you have a place in God and can share the gift you have been given. Paul wrote in Romans 6: 22-23 ESV, “…now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life… The free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Take a chance and ask God to show you His point of view today. The photo is of KJ-52’s album… he brings his five loaves and 2 fish!
