Sweet is the taste. Yes, the memories of an impression from long ago have rekindled a familiar taste and it was sweet. Something from abiding patiently while waiting for the reward of your desire. The promise was pasta with alfredo sauce. The purpose was to fill their bellies with a yummy dinner. The call from Grandpa came, “you want a snack?” fully aware that his grandkids hadn’t eaten in a while and knowing it would take a bit of time to prepare the meal. The look was sincere and the reply was truthful and quick: “No, I wait Ga.”
I wait.
“The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory… (John 1:14 ESV).” You have received the Word. That Word was sweet when you received it. Then you placed your trust in Him since it was sweet and oh so good (Psalm 34:8 KJV). But then life’s interruptions began to set in and the sweetness of that word began to linger maybe even a bit bitter as you digested it. All because the promise of the meal hadn’t come to pass as of yet…
But wait…
“Though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry (Habakkuk 2:3 KJV).”
Once you have tasted something so true and pleasant and then receive the promise of more, it is difficult to have anything else pacify you. “Sweet are thy words” is what David said unto the Lord in his Psalm. “Yea, sweeter than honey in my mouth (119: 103)!” The flavor, the taste, the scent could not be replicated any other way. It had to be the word of the Lord!
In this new year, many are the promises of breakthrough and fulfillment and advancement and I believe it will be so. The joy of the journey is in the waiting as much as the excitement of the fulfillment. Don’t let the timing rob you of the joy set before you. As the grandchild said to the grandfather, “I wait”, so may we say to the Lord, “I wait.” Its knowing that the meal being prepared is much better than the junk food that would replace it.
Godspeed, The Journeyman
Ps. This is to remind us of the promises God has given. Its easy to get wrapped up in a moment of emotion and set course our way. But I tell you, if you remember the season and time you received His Word, you would know that it would not return void. The grandchild in this story loved the meal that was set on the table and ate to the belly was filled. Jeremiah said, “blessed is the man that places his trust in the Lord and whose hope is in Him (17:7).” 2019 is a year of grandeur. Get ready for the hidden treasures to be revealed. And hope in His Word!
Psalm 34:8 KJV; “O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in Him.”
Psalm 119:103 KJV “How sweet are thy words unto my taste! Yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!”
Jeremiah 17:7 KJV; “Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.”
John 1:14 ESV; “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory…”
Habakkuk 2:3 KJV; “For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.”
