renewing...

On a night where winter has returned dropping its melody of snowflakes all over the metropolis and where sunrise is supposed to provide a pleasant dose of icing, I can finally rest my head for the day. It’s once again this stillness where the Lord enters and I don’t mind… Welcome my Friend!

The room is cast in darkness from the onslaught of lights. It isn’t pitch black, but it’ll do for tonight’s rest. Yes, the quietness is comforting for the travel to sleep. It provides a bit of solace when a little conversation takes place. My thoughts drift to the recent passing of a dear friend, he sold me my first home, recently, and I was thinking about some of the trails he must be travelling in his new heavenly home.

Next, I see a veiled conversation that we had in one of our times talking about the beyond. I said when I go, I don’t want anyone to pray that I come back, because I believe the Lord would do it! There was an old evangelist from the late 1800’s to the early 1900’s and he lost his wife. She had just gotten to heaven when she was awoken back on earth. She chastised her husband for calling her back and he finally let her go again. Those were the days of Smith Wigglesworth!

My conversation jumps forward to what I would say to the Lord in a moment like that, “if I am to go back will you heal me? Physically and mentally? The smile and then I’m back writing to you. In a moment a shred of information was downloaded and shared. One that I want to extend to you too.

When injuries occur it is important to know that just as the physical body has to rest and heal, so does the mind. Paul told us to “be transformed by the renewal of your mind (Romans 12:2 ESV).” Often times the scarring isn’t a physical blemish it is one left on the brain. It is in moments like these that we should take time to allow our minds to heal from the old wounds so we are not bound but the limitations that once ruled us.

How do we do this? How can we let our minds heal? By setting our minds on things that are above. Not on the old nature of things (Colossians 3: 2 ESV). Its in drawing close to Him where we put on His nature and forget the old ways (Ephesians 4: 24 ESV). Its here where we find healing in body, mind, and soul. The three parts of human beings.

This may seem far fetched, but as one who has had his fair share of injuries and recoveries, often it was the hindrance of the mind that kept me back until a moment of shifting. Once the shift happened I didn’t look back again…

Godspeed, The Journeyman

Ps. I hope this finds you well and whole. But if any part of an old injury is still lingering, take it to the Cross. Whether emotional, physical, mental or heartache, the best place for it is in the Hands of the Creator.

Romans 12: 2 ESV “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind.”

Ephesians 4: 23-24 ESV “…and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.”

Colossians 3: 2 ESV “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.”
