...unpromise

Spring time is filled with lots of awe and wonder. Sometimes it feels like the rays of the sun just reach out! It is by definition a season of change. It is a time of renewed hope, the fruition of promises, and certain endings along with new beginnings just over the horizon. Yes, it is the interlude between the tundra and the beaches. It is a valued connecting point. One we always look forward to when winter has held a bitter grasp.

The fluctuation of temperatures can be quite sudden. Cold air can begin to filter in with the blink of an eye, or just as easily, the ceilings of warmth from the Southern breeze can swoop in and everyone start to perspire. Yes, Spring time is filled with many promises! It is filled with ‘highs’ and ‘lows’.

But there comes a time when the unpromise hits. It’s a cloud that swoops in and holds a great treasure that keeps circulating within. And steadily it moves along giving the appearance of delivering an anticipated promise, and the leaves that have budded turn upward, and the flowers that have blossomed retreat from the impending onslaught of rain drops. But in the end, the cloud that was... just moves out to sea…

Solomon taught us that if the cloud was filled with rain it would empty itself upon the earth (Ecclesiastes 11: 3). But what if the timing of it delays and it never delivers where it was suppose to? What happens if it misses the field altogether and the seed withers? Too much study of the clouds and the harvest will be missed (Ecclesiastes 11:4).

Yes, if the clouds don’t release their bounty upon the waiting earth and then move to the seas… the benefits of harvest time will fail. The unpromise seals a defeated harvest. So hear the apostle Paul as he reminds us to awake from our sleep for the hour draws near (Romans 13: 11).

  • Good seeds inserted into good soil will deliver good fruit.

  • Bad seed inserted into good soil yields bad fruit.

  • Bad seed inserted into bad soil buds bad fruit.

  • Good soil, good seed, good water, and good timing are necessary for a good harvest.

Spring’s promise brings so much hope! We have to heed the time of planting and harvesting that is in front of us. If we neglect to plant and water, harvest time will not be very fruitful. So remember, God will reward the planter for working the field. His reward is with Him and His work is before Him (Isaiah 40:10).

And one more thing… the time is coming and now is where the people would say, “we hear you, but that is for a time to come.” But the Lord would say, “Nay, the time is now and the days are at hand (Ezekiel 12: 22-28).”

Godspeed, The Journeyman

Ps. Take a moment and ponder the time that is at hand. I believe we can yield a bounty this fall if we are diligent this spring. Be good and Godspeed.

Ecclesiastes 11: 3-4 KJV “If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be. He the observers the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.”

Ecclesiastes 12: 14 KJV “For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.”

Isaiah 40: 10 KJV “Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.”

Ezekiel 12: 22-28 KJV “see bible.” :-)

Romans 13: 11 KJV “And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.”
